Handle Bar!!

Peter decided to shave off his "winter beard" and got a little creative in the process. Who doesn't like a handlebar mustache I say. Oh wait me that's who. Don't fret, this was just a stop on the shaving train and he now has a nice clean shaven face.

I am almost done adding prices to the list of all of our STUFF. Then on to the list of shoes and books and then off the the lawyer they go.
Its rather depressing having to assign dollar amounts to things that are priceless. Priceless to me at least. My grandfathers wallet, the key plate my dad made me in the pottery class that he took, the drum I bought in Ghana, you get my point.

I will be happy when the lists are over and in someone elses hands. so will Jonah. He doesn't understand why mommy is on the computer so much these days and not on the floor playing with him where I belong!!!

I have hardly gotten to do any knitting so the soaker pants for the j man are taking longer than I thought. There is no way they will be ready for Easter. Oh well. As long as I get them done and they fit him I'll be happy.

thoughts for today

so its raining again. didn't this happen only a few short weeks ago but with snow. precipitation has been very present in our lives in 2010. too bad peter doesn't get off for rain.

jonah may or may not be getting a new tooth but his sleep habits are indicating it. 3:42 on a sat morn is just too early for me. at least this morning he slept till 4. those extra 18 min really make a difference let me tell you.

finally found clothes pins after going to 4 stores and now its pouring. isn't that the way sometimes. its ok the weather people assure me that it will be beautiful and sunny by the end of the week and I will have cloth diapers drying in the sun before I know it. is it weird that I can't wait to see them all hanging there with the sun beating down on them the earth imparting its natural scents to my baby's diapers? don't get me wrong. i'm excited for drying all of our clothes out there too but i just get giddy at the thought of diapers out on the line.

easter is this weekend.

how is it that my fabulous baby boy can walk all the way across the room while holding something in his hands but can't do it when his hands are free.

waiting to see if the roof really is repaired.......buckets on hand just in case.

had a great time in dc with kara on sat. her new house is super cute. exposed brick everywhere. eastern market reminded me of home and the 77th st market.

today

today will be beautiful. i can tell already.
have plans to buy clothes pins and stitch markers.
Clothes pins for my sweet new clothes line and stitch markers for the soaker pants that I am knitting jonah.
they are coming out great by the way.

and if i'm feeling really ambitious maybe just maybe i'll get the thank you cards out from jonah's bday parties.

the drum set was the perfect gift for him, thank you sara!

my little boy who can barely walk has somehow figured out how to use the foot petal on the drum set. he stands there holding 2 drum sticks using the foot petal going to town, rockin it out!!! its adorable. I had to pry a drum stick out of his hand the other night. sorry. call me mean mommy if you want but I no sleeping with your drum sticks till at least 2yrs old!

socks

I just want it on the record that the reason my son is chronically wearing unmatched socks is because when I change his poopy diapers he has a habit of putting one foot and only one foot in the poop. I see no reason to change both socks when only one is dirty. So I change one and therefore he ends up with unmatched socks.
I just needed to say that.

lashes

1 yr ago today my child started growing eye lashes. I find that amazing. I remember it so clearly. Life one yr ago was crazy, sleepless, drama filled (as if one yr later is any different...).

But I remember his eye lashes coming in. I remember thinking "I will always remember the day your eye lashes came in".

I hope I always do.

Numero Uno

My baby Boy is One. How did this happen. A one yr old sounds so old and grown up and he is still my little baby, isn't he? Truth is he's both. He's soooooooo big. standing tall and taking a few steps here and there, feeding himself, doing a little self play. but he;s also still a baby. wants to be around mommy all the time, prefers a bottle to a sippy cup. He's in between a baby and a toddler, he's a little man.

I can't believe it was a yr ago. peter and i barreling down I-95 praying we didn't have a turnpike baby. Hoping he had turned and was no longer breetched and I could have my planned water birth with the mid wives. those hopes were quickly dashed and off to the hospital we went. picking out names on the 15 min drive between the birth center and the hospital. having to come to grips QUICKLY that I was going to have a c section. having a c section. ITS A BOY!!!!!!! then dealing with the whole NICU drama. insisting on breast feeding, we had to compromise on that one.

My baby born with black and blue feet from kicking me so much.
he was so tiny, got down to 5 lbs. it felt like the first month was full of drama, sleeplessness and drama.

We settled in to a rhythm. cosleeping, swaddling, breastfeeding, babywearing, ECing. so many things that were new became usual so quickly. It has all happened so quickly.
His cloth diapers that went up to his arm pits in the beginning, now fit just fine.
he's still skinny even though he eats more than you would think that little body could ever eat. He's just so active he burns all his calories. Active inside of me, active out, he's our little speedy man. A yr has gone by and I can't believe it. Nothing went as planned yet it all worked out perfectly!

its only a 1st bday party.................

back from what seemed like endless errands...............
seriously, its only a first bday party why does it seem like its swallowing me up. mainly menu issues but really, he's only one. lets save the stress for his 10th.

this sunday is the maryland party, 2 weeks is the nyc party. this boy is going to be very celebrated.

and not to give the wrong impression or anything but they are both super low key affairs. simple food, good friends, no bouncy castles or anything crazy. the weather may even crawl to the 60's so the kids could play outside, hell the adults could play outside too.

and don;t even get me started on the dmv this morning, my number: C67. so I watch the little number board and once I see C66 is called I get my stuff ready thinking I'm next 45 min later, after the A's, D's, and G's are all up to 66 then they start in on the 67's and so forth. there is no way to explain to a baby why you have to wait that long somewhere where they can't crawl on the floor. he wanted down, I looked at that gross floor and didn't think it was a good idea, it went on like that for the entire 2 hrs we spent in there.

But the car is taken care of. My mind however is not.

And the cute train cake pan I bought especially for his first bday is now causing me nothing but angst stressing about how to decorate the damn thing. when you're a pastry chef people expect stuff to look good. i'm probably over thinking this but whatever. they are my friends and family and even if it looks horrible it will taste wonderful and really thats all that matters right.
I;m going to try and remember that when I'm not sleeping tonight worrying about it!!!!

the big 3!!!

the elusive third tooth has finally sprouted. I knew it was in there somewhere given the way the j man has been acting when eating but couldn't see it. He refuses to let me poke around in his mouth, much to my chagrin! but then yesterday afternoon I was changing him and he was laughing and I spotted the tell tale white line poking out from his upper left gum. then at dinner he would only eat apple sauce, which is what he does whenever he first sprouts a tooth.

And in equally as exciting news, he signed his first sign last night. I have been signing to him since 2 months and he recognizes signs just fine but has never done one. But when I signed "all done" asking about dinner he signed back "more". can you believe it. I was beside myself!!!!!!!
Good day in Mommy land my friends, good day!!!!!

baltimore, again!!

back to charm city this past weekend. just can't get enough. but to be honest i don't get out much.

jonah's vocabulary seriously jumped this trip.
on friday j started saying "good" it was amazing!!
He loves dogs and when craig's dog buckley wasn't around j started calling for him, "bu, bu" not the full word but we understood his meaning. then he started saying "dig" for dog.

so that means j can now say:
mommy
dada
milk
good
buckley
dog

so yeah he's unbelievably incredible!!!!
